Android Tip: Lose your Android phone? Find it with a friend’s Android device

So, you’re out and about in the big city when all of a sudden, you realize your pocket it empty. Not just any pocket, mind you, but the one where your precious Android phone usually sits.

Well, you can always just fire up the Android Device Manager to track your phone, right? But wait—the Android Device Manager app is on your phone, and your phone is missing.

Gulp.

Before you panic or make a mad dash to log into Android Device Manager from the web, try this: just use someone else’s Android phone to track down your phone.

You can log into Android Device Manager from a friend’s phone; just tap their user name, then tap Guest.

Here’s how…

• Open the Android Device Manager on a friend’s (or a loved one’s, or a stranger’s) Android phone. If they don’t have it installed, go ahead and grab it from the Google Play Store.
• When you open the app, you’ll see one of two things: either the Android Device Manager login page, or a map showing the location of the phone right in front of you. Either way, you should also see the owner’s Google user name—just above the “password” field (on the login page) or at the top of the screen (on the map page). Tap the owner’s user name, and a drop-down menu will appear. Tap the “Guest” option, then go ahead and sign in with your own Google user name and password.
• Once you’re signed in—and assuming your phone is still online—the location of your handset should appear on a map, and you’ll be able to lock then phone, make it ring, or even wipe it remotely.
